About Constanța Coffee Club
We're John and Olivia(JO), and we like coffee. Like, a lot. Since moving to Eastern Europe several years ago, we've discovered some incredible coffees and incredible Roasters. We've gotten really into home brewing, and decided we should write some of this stuff down.
This blog isn't supposed to be a list of "top ten coffee shops near you". We're particularly interested in the folks that make the magic happen - Roasters (not to say we won't review a normal cafe here and there). Some visited in person, either along the Black Sea coast or beyond. Others we've visited virtually through ordering form them online. Either way, we're interested in learning from them, brewing their beans ourselves at home, and giving you our honest thoughts.
How we review
Each review has two layers. We think a roaster's beans and their cafe/roastery should be reviewed seperately.
- The visit (when we're actually able to go): We'll focus on the space, what we ordered, and our overall experience. When we have opportunities to interview roasters and hear their stories, we'll be sure to include those as well!
- The beans: brewed and reviewed at home, probably the same way you'd do it. We note origin, process, roast level, how it was brewed, and how it actually tasted. Rated per bag, as we're all fallible and a roaster's lineup can be hit or miss even when the roaster itself is great.
Ratings will come in the form of seashells, sand-dollars, or starfish, since we're reviewing from the coast. Unfortunatley we don't find many "gold stars" lying on the beach that often.
Why we do this
Because it's fun, and we like coffee. So why not? We're already tracking and reviewing what we liked and disliked at home, so why not put it online to hopefully help someone else in their coffee journey? Our aim is to be a servant to all, even in something as small as a coffee blog, and to honor those that do the hard work of roasting the coffee. While also being honest about our experience.
A note on honesty
If a roaster gives us free coffee in any way (either at the shop or sends us a bag), we'll be sure to say that in the post. It in no way will alter our review, whether it's free or not. Our integrity is worth more than a free cup of coffee. Also, we are in no way claiming to be experts or an authority on roasting and coffee in general. We simply want to share our experiences as consumers with others! We are fallible humans who will likely make mistakes and when we do we'll let you know!
Reach out
Do you know a roaster, and think we should know them too? Think we missed something in a review? Reach out to us on Instagram! We'd love to hear from you! Grace and peace to you!
